The Game Board.

  • The game board consists of squares.
  • There are 94 playable squares within a 12 x 12 square grid.

  • Every square is adjacent to 4 other squares (along a common edge).
  • Every square is diagonally adjacent to 4 other squares (at a common corner).

Square Stacking Limits. Each square may contain the following things.

  • Terrain. A square always has exactly one terrain type.
    • A terrain type is a special kind of spell. Terrains have various effects, from beneficial to harmful.
  • Structure. A structure is a Sanctum, town, or colony.
    • A square may have 1 structure.
    • A square that has no structure is said to be empty.
    • A square with a structure always has plains terrain type.
    • A square can't have 2 or more structures.
  • Group. A group is any recruit group or minion group.
    • A square may have 1 group.
    • A square that has no group is said to be unoccupied.
    • A square can't have 2 or more groups.
    • Exception: A square may have 2 or more groups temporarily during spell execution or movement execution. This is called an overstack. Overstacks are always resolved automatically as part of the spell or movement execution.
